You know the feeling. It’s 2:30 PM, your third cup of coffee is wearing off, and you’re staring at your screen like it’s written in a language you haven’t learned yet. The "afternoon slump" isn't just a lull in energy; it’s a leak in your leadership.
Most people try to power through it with sugar or sheer willpower. But you aren’t "most people." You are a Role Model, and a Role Model knows that peak performance isn’t about grinding until you break: it’s about tactical recovery so you can finish the day as the excellent version of yourself.
What if I told you that you could reclaim your focus, double your afternoon output, and step into your evening with actual energy left for your family, all in exactly 16 minutes and 44 seconds?
Welcome to the 16:44 Reset.
The Science of the "Shyft"
As a Veteran and a high-performance coach, I’ve seen the toll that decision fatigue takes on the executive mind. By mid-afternoon, your cognitive load is peaking. Your nervous system is likely stuck in a "high-beta" state: agitated, reactive, and shallow.
The 16:44 Reset is designed to move you from reactive to proactive. It’s exactly half of my 34 Minute Mindful Method, distilled into a tactical sprint. Why 16:44? Because precision matters. When we give our brains a specific, timed window to reset, we eliminate the "scarcity" mindset of feeling like we don't have enough time to rest.
This isn't a break. It’s a Shyft. It’s about choosing to prioritize your "Y Factor": the YOU and YOUR WHY: over the endless pinging of your inbox.

Step 1: Regulate (4 Minutes)
The first step is about calming the chaos. If your nervous system is fried, your strategy will be flawed. You cannot lead others if you cannot lead your own physiology.
For the first four minutes, we use tactical breathing. This isn't "woo-woo" meditation; it’s a Veteran-proven tool to down-regulate the sympathetic nervous system.
- The Drill: 4-4-4-4 Box Breathing. Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.
- The Goal: Lower your heart rate and clear the mental fog.
During these four minutes, close your eyes. Disconnect from the blue light. You are reclaiming the territory of your own mind.
Step 2: Rebuild (8 Minutes)
Now that you’re calm, we need to move. Stagnant bodies create stagnant thoughts. You don’t need a gym; you need oxygenation.
For eight minutes, perform a high-intensity "Micro-Activation."
- 2 minutes of air squats (get the blood flowing to the largest muscles in your body).
- 2 minutes of wall push-ups or planks.
- 4 minutes of intentional stretching or somatic release.
This isn't about getting a workout in; it’s about signaling to your brain that the "slump" is over. You are rebuilding your physical state to match the potential you know you are capable of. When you move with intensity, you break the cycle of lethargy.

Step 3: Rise (4 Minutes and 44 Seconds)
The final segment is the mental recalibration. This is where you step into the Role Model Mindset.
Ask yourself: If I were the most excellent version of myself right now, what would my next move be?
Don't look at your entire to-do list. That’s how you get overwhelmed. Identify the ONE thing that moves the needle. Write it down. Visualize yourself completing it with precision and ease.
This is the "Rise" phase. You’ve regulated your body, rebuilt your energy, and now you are rising to meet the demands of your leadership. You aren't just finishing the workday; you are mastering it.
Why This Matters for the High-Achiever
I talk a lot about "Tactical Luxury." People often think luxury is about what you own. To me, luxury is the ability to maintain your peace and your power in the middle of a storm.
The 16:44 Reset is a luxury. It’s a gift you give to yourself so that you can show up better for everyone else. If you are constantly running on empty, you aren't leading: you’re surviving. And you were meant for more than survival.
When you take this small window of time, you are signaling to your subconscious that you are worthy of care. You are practicing self-leadership. You are proving that you have ownership over your schedule, not the other way around.

Taking the Next Step
The 16:44 Reset is a powerful tool, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Real transformation happens when you align your entire life: your body, your leadership, and your purpose: into a singular, powerful force.
Are you living in the potential you know you are capable of? Or are you settling for "good enough" because you’re too tired to aim for "excellent"?
