It’s 3:30 PM. You’ve had the meetings. You’ve cleared the "urgent" emails. And now, you’re hitting that wall… the one where your brain feels like it’s wading through wet cement and your focus has officially left the building.
Most people call this the afternoon slump. They reach for a third cup of coffee or start mindlessly scrolling, just waiting for the clock to strike five so they can "check out."
But as a Veteran and a leader, you know that coasting isn’t an option. The highest version of you: the one living in the potential you know you’re capable of: doesn't just survive the end of the day. You finish with intention.
Welcome to the 16:44 Reset.
This isn’t about pushing harder or grinding until you burn out. It’s about a strategic, 5-minute intervention that allows you to Regulate, Rebuild, and Rise so you can transition from "Work Mode" to "Life Mode" with your excellence intact.
Why 16:44? The Power of the Final Pivot
You might wonder why I’ve pinned this to 4:44 PM. In my world, the 16:44 Shyft represents that critical window right before the traditional workday ends. It’s the moment you decide whether you’re going to drag your stress home to your family or leave it at the door.
When you use the "Y Factor": putting YOU and YOUR WHY back into the driver’s seat: you stop being a victim of your schedule. You start practicing the Role Model Mindset.
If you aren't sure where your energy is leaking throughout the day, take the Life Alignment Assessment right now. It will show you exactly where you’re out of sync so we can fix it.

The 5-Minute Performance Protocol
Here is exactly how to execute a 16:44 Reset. No equipment needed. No "woo-woo" fluff. Just tactical excellence.
Minute 1: Regulate (The Tactical Breath)
As a Veteran, I learned early on that if you can’t control your breath, you can’t control your brain. Your nervous system is likely stuck in "high alert" from a day of fires and deadlines.
- The Action: Sit tall. Close your eyes if you can. Perform four rounds of Box Breathing: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.
- The Shyft: You are telling your body that the "battle" of the workday is over. You are regulating your system so you can think clearly again.
Minutes 2-3: Rebuild (Physical Correction)
Your body has been hunched over a laptop or sitting in meetings for hours. This physical stagnation leads to mental stagnation. We need to Rebuild your posture to Rebuild your presence.
- The Action: Stand up. Reach for the ceiling, then roll your shoulders back. Do 10 air squats or a 60-second plank if you’re in a private office. If you’re in a cubicle, perform standing spinal twists and neck circles.
- The Shyft: Movement creates momentum. By changing your physical state, you break the "slump" loop. This is a core pillar of the 34 Minute Mindful Method, where we prioritize small blocks of movement to maintain elite performance.
Minute 4: The Identity Check (Role Model Mindset)
This is where most people fail. They forget who they are trying to be. Ask yourself: How would the person I am becoming finish this day?
- The Action: Identify the one most important thing you accomplished today. Acknowledge it. Then, identify the one thing that didn't get done and consciously give yourself permission to handle it tomorrow.
- The Shyft: You are taking ownership. You are stepping into the excellent version of yourself: the one who is disciplined enough to stop working when the time is up, rather than letting work bleed into your personal life.

Minute 5: Rise (The Next-Day Win)
The best way to enjoy your evening is to know that tomorrow is already handled.
- The Action: Write down your "Big Three" tasks for tomorrow morning. Clean your desk. Shut down your tabs.
- The Shyft: You are rising above the chaos. By closing the loops of today, you prevent "open loop anxiety" from ruining your dinner or your sleep.
Stepping Into Your Potential
I talk a lot about "stepping into the excellent version of yourself." That doesn't happen during a 3-day retreat once a year (though my Revive & Thrive Retreats are life-changing). It happens in the 5-minute gaps.
It happens when you choose to Shyft your energy at 4:44 PM instead of just surviving until 5:00 PM.
When you practice the Role Model Mindset, you aren't just doing it for yourself. You’re doing it for your team, your spouse, and your kids. You are showing them what a leader looks like when the pressure is on.

Stop Coasting, Start Leading
If you find yourself constantly hitting that afternoon wall and you’re tired of feeling like you’re only giving 50% to the people who matter most at home, it’s time for a deeper change.
You have the inherent capacity for excellence. You just need the tools to unlock it.
