You’ve been playing small for so long that "average" has started to feel like an achievement. You’ve convinced yourself that being "fine" is enough, that "good enough" is a pass, and that the gap between who you are and who you know you could be is just a natural part of life.
It’s not. It’s a slow-moving poison.
Welcome to Day 6 of our 7-Day Role Model Mindset & Self-Building Series. If you’ve been following along, you’ve done the heavy lifting of looking inward. But today, we’re drawing a line in the sand. Today, we’re talking about the Standard of You.
Mediocrity isn’t a lack of talent. It’s a lack of standards. It’s the decision to settle for the floor when you were built for the ceiling. As a Veteran, I’ve seen what happens when standards slip: it’s never just one thing; it’s a ripple effect that compromises the entire mission. In your life, that mission is your potential. And frankly? Mediocrity is no longer an option.
The Cost of "Good Enough"
We live in a world that rewards the middle. If you do just enough not to get fired, just enough to keep your relationship on life support, and just enough to stay "not sick," society calls you successful.
But you aren’t "society." You are a leader. You are a role model. And the "good enough" mindset is costing you the very thing you crave: impact.
When you settle for mediocrity in your personal discipline, your leadership suffers. When you allow your physical health to slide, your mental clarity follows. When you stop pushing for excellence in your daily habits, you send a silent message to everyone around you: your team, your family, and most importantly, yourself: that your potential is negotiable.
It’s time to stop negotiating with your greatness.

The Identity Shyft: Why Your "Why" Matters
To raise your standard, you have to undergo an Identity Shyft. I spell it with a "Y" because it’s about YOU and YOUR WHY.
Most people try to change their results without changing their identity. They want the "Executive" title without the executive discipline. They want the "Athlete" body without the athlete’s standard of nutrition and movement.
The Standard of You is built on the foundation of who you believe you are. If you see yourself as someone who "tries," you’ll always find an excuse. But if you see yourself as the Excellent Version of Yourself, excuses don't even make it to the table. They don’t fit the brand.
Stepping into the Role Model Mindset means recognizing that you are the primary architect of your reality. You don’t find excellence; you build it, brick by brick, through the standards you refuse to compromise on.
Regulate → Rebuild → Rise: The Framework for Excellence
How do you actually walk away from mediocrity? You follow the path I’ve spent years refining with high-level executives and Veterans: Regulate, Rebuild, and Rise.
1. Regulate
You cannot build a skyscraper on a swamp. If your nervous system is fried, your schedule is a mess, and your mind is cluttered with the "noise" of modern life, you’ll default to the path of least resistance (mediocrity). You must regulate your environment and your physiology first.
This is where my 34 Minute Mindful Method comes in. It’s not about spending hours in meditation; it’s about tactical, intentional moments that bring you back to center so you can lead from a place of power, not panic.
2. Rebuild
Once you’re regulated, you rebuild your standards. You audit your life. Where have you been "fine"? Where have you been "good enough"?
- Body: Are you fueling yourself for performance or just for survival?
- Leadership: Are you holding your team to a standard you aren't even meeting yourself?
- Purpose: Are you working toward a legacy, or just a paycheck?
3. Rise
Rising is the act of living in the potential you know you are capable of. It’s the "Tactical Luxury" of a life well-lived: where discipline meets freedom. When you rise, you aren't just doing better; you are being better. You become the Shyft Master™ of your own domain.

The Role Model Mindset: The Ceiling and the Floor
As a leader, your personal standard is either the ceiling or the floor for those around you.
If your standard for yourself is low, you have no moral authority to ask for excellence from your team. If you are inconsistent, you breed a culture of inconsistency. But when you hold yourself to a standard of excellence: when you are steadfast, not necessarily flawless, but always striving: you give everyone else permission to do the same.
This is foundational self-building. You are not just building a career; you are building a human being that people can look up to. You are becoming the role model you wish you had.
Breaking the Cycle of Complacency
Mediocrity is comfortable. It’s a warm blanket that slowly smothers your soul. To break the cycle, you need more than just "motivation." Motivation is a feeling, and feelings are fickle. You need a system.
- Audit Your Circle: Are you surrounded by people who challenge your standards or people who validate your excuses?
- Take the Life Alignment Quiz: If you aren't sure where the leaks are in your boat, you need to find out. Take the Life Alignment Assessment to see where you’re off-track.
- Commit to the 34 Minutes: High-performance leadership requires a high-performance mind. Start your day by prioritizing you. Check out the 34 Minute Mindful Method and stop letting your morning own you.

Your New Standard Starts Now
I’m not here to tell you that it’s going to be easy. I’m here to tell you that it’s going to be worth it.
Living in mediocrity is actually harder than living in excellence. Mediocrity comes with the heavy weight of "what if," the constant nagging of regret, and the exhaustion of pretending you’re satisfied when you’re starving for more.
Excellence? Excellence is heavy too, but it’s the weight of a trophy, not a lead vest. It’s the weight of responsibility, authority, and true self-love.
You know you are capable of more. You’ve felt it in those quiet moments when the noise stops. That version of you: the excellent version: is waiting for you to stop settling.
Are you ready to Shyft?
